The lookout on Morton Peak is located in the foothills looking up into the fire-prone San Bernardino Mountains. Built in 1934, the tower was rebuilt in 1960 with a 14’x14’ CL-100 metal cab with flat corrugated roof and metal catwalk. A gradual increase in smog lessened the visibility from the lookout and it was abandoned in the 1970s. In 2001 it was restored by volunteers from the San Bernardino National Forest Association and returned to active service by volunteer observers. Although staffed daily during fire season, it is also available for rental in the evenings and nights.
