Reached only by a 5 mile trail and now on standby status, San Mateo
Lookout is the oldest detection facility remaining on the Magdalena Ranger
District of the Cibola National Forest. It is an 59’3" Aermotor LX-25 tower
with 7’x7’ metal cab and is one of the last remaining examples in the U.S.
of the platform style ladder/stairs.
