The first lookout at Dog Mountain on the Fremont National Forest was a U.S. Forest Service cabin built in the 1920s. A L-4 ground house without catwalk was constructed in 1947, serving until replaced in 1997 with an attractive new, two story log structure designed in Idaho. The 14' x 14' cab is devoted to detection activities with living quarters on the first floor. It is in active service.
