There are only three lookouts remaining in Nevada, and two of them are operated by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM). Yellow Peak Lookout oversees the Sheldon National Wildlife Refuge in the high desert and timber islands of northwestern Nevada. Built in 1981, it is a unique 9' x 9' groundhouse with wooden catwalk on a 2' foundation, and is staffed during periods of high fire danger.
