The first lookout on Surveyor’s Ridge on the St. Joe National Forest was
a gabled L-4 on a 20’ pole tower built in 1931. In 1964 it was replaced by the
current R-6 15’ x 15’ flattop with catwalk on a 20’ timber tower. In active
service until recent years the lookout -- which overlooks the Mallard-Larkins
Pioneer Area -- has been added to the cabin rental program.
