One of a very few two-story lookouts left in North Carolina, Duckett Top was
built in 1936 by the CCC for the US Forest Service. In 1966 it was transferred
to the NC Forest Service, which continues to staff it. The 14’x 14’ wooden cab
with catwalk is atop a 10’ rock foundation located on a “bald mountain”
northwest of Asheville.
