The first lookout on Timber Mountain in the ColviIle National Forest in
northeastern Washington was a 50’ pole tower with a L-4 cab atop. The existing
41’ treated timber tower, featuring an R-6 flattop live-in cab and a catwalk
was built in 1959 and staffed until 1981. The lookout fell into disrepair
until the Pend Oreille Anthropological Society and the U.S. Forest Service
began restoration in 1995 as a "Passport in Time” project.
