In 1919 a heliograph was set up on the west point of the butte.  In 1920 a telephone line was built to the western point from the Cabin Lake Ranger Station.  In 1924, a standard D-6 cupola was constructed on the western point.  In August 1926 a fire swept over the summit completely burning the cupola.  A pole tower and a ground cabin for living quarters was constructed. The current 80’ steel Aermotor tower with metal 7’ x 7’ cab was built in 1933 on Fox Butte and the cabin from the western point was moved to the tower site on the eastern point. In 1934 the garage was built. The present ground cabin, a gable-roof L-4, was moved from Sixteen Butte in 1948.
