The site of a lookout in the northern Adirondacks since 1909, the present
Saint Regis Mountain Fire Tower was constructed in 1918 by the state of New
York and staffed for 81 years before being closed at the end of the 1990 fire
season. The
35’ Aermotor LS-40 tower with 7’x7’ metal cab is readily visible from the Forest
Interpretive Center at Paul Smiths College and is a popular hiking
